JEEVASTRA-PROCESS
Our Process
THE PROCESS
We use natural fibre like cotton and yarn for the dyeing process, we seldom use other natural fibres like jute, wool, silk, hemp and linen for our dying. The making of Jeevastra mats are made from 100% chemical free pure organic pieces of cotton. The dyeing process of fabric and yarn is done several steps, mentioned below
NATURAL BLEACHING
The 100% natural bleaching process is done using sunlight, soap nuts & antibacterial herbs etc. The bleaching enhances the vibrancy of the natural colour and also removes impurities present in cotton or yarn. This process is done through several stages of treatment against germs and other dust particles, which could compromise the quality of the fabrics in the later stages.
PREPARATION OF AYURVEDIC ADDITIVES
The Ayurvedic dyes are prepared based on the specific colour, each colour has different wellness properties. Then the organic fabric is permeated with the Ayurvedic dye carefully in a mixture of Ayurvedic additives preparation called Kashayas (Malayalam word for concoctions). This blend of Ayurvedic herbs is slowly boiled in an environment where humidity and temperature are controlled when the process completes. Then the dye components are extracted and then filtered according to the specific colour.
DYEING
This process is colour specific, as mentioned before individual colour has specific healing and wellness properties. This process permanently fixes the dyes to our fabrics.
WASHING / FINISHING
In ayurvedic dyeing, the finishing process begins by sprinkling pure water in small quantities and with periodic intervals on the cloth. This pure water sprinkled fabric is once again treated with a 100% organic dispersants solution to remove the unfixed in yarn or fabrics to give an even feel to the fabric.
SOFTENING
The freshly dyed fabrics are usually too hard usually. The softening process is done cold with 100% organic oils such Coconut oil or Castor oil depending on the fabric.
DRYING
The dyed fabrics are dried in shades and kept for prolonged periods for the longevity of the fabrics
